Living Rosary

On April 28th, our PREP classes continued a St Madeline tradition in saying the Living Rosary. If you look closely at the picture to the left, you will see the children holding beads attached with string. The Rosary was made by Pat Cosenza over 20 years ago. It’s an actual Rosary that spans the entire length of the St. James Regional Catholic School gym, with 56 beads and a large cross, which was held by the 6th grade class. If a child was holding a bead, they said the beginning of the prayer and the rest of the group followed. Deacon Tom Taylor, our Director of Religious Education, and our amazing Catechists helped guide the children through the Decades. It was beautiful to see all levels gather together in faith and prayer.

PREP classes are open to children grades 1-6 who are registered at St. Madeline. If you’d like information about PREP classes for your child(ren), visit the PREP page or contact us at the rectory.

Learn How to Pray the Rosary

The Rosary is made up of several series of beads that represent specific prayers and mysteries. The Rosary can be prayed alone or with a group. We use the beads to let us know what prayer is to be said next.

The Introductory prayers begin with the Crucifix. While holding the Crucifix, make the Sign of the Cross and recite The Apostles Creed. On the next bead, recite the Our Father. On the following 3 beads, the Hail Mary is recited. On the final bead, the Glory Be is recited.

After the Introductory prayers, the first of 5 mysteries is announced. There are 4 types of mysteries: Joyful Mysteries, Luminous Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries, and Glorious Mysteries. We then pray the Lord’s Prayer (the Our Father). On the next 10 beads, we recite a Hail Mary, moving along after the completion of each. End the series with a Glory Be. This is called a Decade. We pray 5 Decades, each representing a different mystery.

The Rosay is concluded by reciting a Hail Holy Queen and make the Sign of the Cross.

Here at St. Madeline’s, the Rosary is prayed every morning after 8am Daily Mass, Sunday’s before 8:30am Mass, and on Monday’s at 2pm in Rector Chapel. All are welcome.
