Parent and Guardian Code of Conduct

Saint Madeline Parish CYO has set standards for all participating athletes and their families.  To reaffirm Saint Madeline’s commitment to good sportsmanship, fair play, and the advancement of the sport being played, this Code of Conduct will be followed by every participating athlete along with the athlete’s parents or guardians, their family and friends.

Parental/Guardian Behavioral Expectations:

1. Registration fees are to be paid upon signing your child up for a sport.
2. You are to notify the coaching staff (and/or athletic director), in writing or by email, if your child has any health concerns.
3. Be mindful of time.  Please arrive 15-30 minutes before each game, so coaches can set lineups and your child can properly warm up.  If you know your child cannot make it to a game or practice, please communicate with the coach as soon as possible.
4. You are expected to ensure your athlete takes proper care of his/her uniform.  You are expected to return your child’s uniform at the end of the season, clean.   Please alert the coach if the uniform has any issues.  Uniforms are reused for multiple seasons to keep the cost of CYO sports affordable.
5. You are responsible for purchasing the proper equipment needed for the sport (e.g., cleats for soccer or baseball, knee pads for volleyball).

HIGHLY IMPORTANT

Violations of the Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action including suspension – either temporarily or permanently as determined by the CYO Board of Directors.

Parent/Guardian, Adult Game Time Behavior:

1. You are expected to REMEMBER THIS IS CYO, the “Catholic Youth Organization”, and you are representing Saint Madeline Parish, and should act accordingly.
2. You are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship regardless of the outcome of the game.
3. Cheer in a POSITIVE manner.  DO NOT be negative with any referee, volunteer, coach, parent or player.
4. You are expected NOT TO ARGUE with any referee, volunteer, coach, parent or player of any team.
5. You are expected to refrain from abusing referees, coaches, volunteers, parents or players of any team.  NO FOUL LANGUAGE of any kind will be tolerated.  Any abuse, physical or verbal, in person or via electronic means, will result in your inability to attend games.  Repeat offenses may result in the dismissal of your child from CYO.
6. You are expected to allow the coaching staff to make decisions about line-ups and playing time.  You are expected to refrain from making comments about these decisions.
7. You are expected to NOT COACH FROM THE SIDELINES or any place within the gym/field.
8. You are expected to monitor your child’s social media.  Nobody, parent/guardian, relative or child, should be posting any negative connotations about a referee, coach, team, player or volunteer.  There is zero tolerance for this.  Violations will cause the child’s removal from the team and possibly the program.
9. You are expected to be KIND, POSITIVE, RESPECTFUL, SUPPORTIVE and ENCOURAGING to everyone.
10. You are expected to be POSITIVE with your children.  Tell them the good things they do in the sports they play.  “Life is too short, and time goes by too fast”.  ENJOY watching your children play !!!
